Dancer, choreographer, and curator Mina Nishimura plays match-maker to three groups of artists and the bucolic grounds of Mount Tremper Arts. In this oddly perfect marriage, MTA’s unique spirit and environment feed inspiration to the artists, who in turn activate and nurture the space.

Witness their mutual affection in Julie Mayo’s absurd yet thoughtful use of body, language, and space; Athena Kokoronis + Laurel Atwell’s use of intuition as a driving force to say where the structure and the frames of art and life appear, overlap, and are removed; and BOOM BAT GESTURE’s vivid energy and fearlessly experimental and mischievous spirit.

About the Artists
BOOM BAT GESTURE Performance Group (BBG) builds work through improvisation, collaborative processes, and multi-media tools, cultivating a unique voice in abstract storytelling and dark humor.

Athena Kokoronis experiments with dance economies on a domestic scale and addressing choreographic problem-solving with time, sensitivity, and intimacy. She is the founder of Domestic Performance Agency.

Laurel Atwell has recently become more interdisciplinary as Artist-in-Residence at Movement Research, and her work has been presented at Abrons Arts Center, Dixon Place, Danspace Project, and others.

Julie Mayo is a choreographer and performer creating works that value the intersection of the uncanny and the quotidian, the comic and the tragic, and the individual and the collective. Mina Nishimura performs internationally and began creating her own work in 2005. She’s taught at Movement Research, Bennington College, Earthdance, and Brooklyn Studios for Dance.
